The 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment is an original unit of the 25th Infantry Division. The battalion was first formed on 13 July 1916 in Douglas Arizona from elements of the 11th, 18th and 22nd Infantry Regiments. The Canton of the 35th Infantry Regiment represents those units with the White Maltese Cross for the 11th, the Red Acorn for the 18th and the embattled partition of the line of the Canton for the 22nd Infantry Regiments.

The 2nd Battalion, 35th Inf. was originally constituted as Company B, 35th Infantry Regiment and first saw action at Nogales Mexico against Mexican bandits of Poncho Villa. The cactus represents the original service of the regiment along the Mexican border.

In 1922, the entire regiment was assigned to the old Hawaiian Division stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii and served with the Hawaiian Division until World War II.

In October 1941 the entire 35th Infantry Regiment was assigned to the newly formed 25th Infantry Division. During World War II, the 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry Regiment participated in four campaigns to include Guadalcanal, Luzon, Central Pacific, and spearheaded the amphibious assault on the Northern Solomons.

Immediately following World War II the 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry Regiment conducted occupation duties in Japan and remained there until the outbreak of hostilities in Korea.

During the Korean Conflict, 2/35 INF was rushed into Korea to support the Pusan Perimeter Defense. The 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment earned the nickname "Rock of the Nam" for its staunch defense along the Nam River of the Pusan perimeter in June 1950. The battalion participated in 10 campaigns during the Korean Conflict to include battles at the Inchon Amphibious Landing, Heart Break Ridge and Punchbowl.

The 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry Regiment returned to Schofield Barracks immediately following the Korean Conflict.

In 1966, 2/35 INF deployed with the 25th Infantry Division to South East Asia, Vietnam.

On 1 August 1967, 2/35 INF was relieved from assignment to the 25th Infantry Division and assigned to the 4th Infantry Division while in Vietnam.

Serving with the 25th ID and the 4th ID, 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry conducted 62 combat operations and participated in 13 campaigns.

On 1 September 1995, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry’s Regimental colors were retired from active service and the unit was redesignated as 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry Regiment assigned to the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks Hawaii.

The battalion has participated in 27 campaigns in three wars and has produced nine recipients of the Medal of Honor.
